SHU Introduces New Online Program Offerings

News Story: January 1, 2010
Sacred Heart University, one of the largest Catholic universities in New England, will now offer one undergraduate and two graduate degree programs online as an alternative to its traditional, campus-based offerings. SHU has offered online educational options since 1997.

The university will initially offer two degrees from the school’s respected nursing program, an RN to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN-BSN) and a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN). In addition, Sacred Heart University’s Jack Welch College of Business – named for GE’s legendary former Chairman and CEO, Jack Welch – is bringing its innovative AACSB-accredited MBA program online. The program’s multidisciplinary assignments and intensive classes are designed to develop and hone a student’s cross-functional skills.

“The MBA program is designed to incorporate real-world experience and challenges and respond to today's volatile business environment,” said Dr. John Petillo, Dean of Sacred Heart University’s John F. Welch College of Business.  “Our curriculum proactively prepares students for the ever changing global business environment with an integrated core that is taught simultaneously in a “business process” approach.”

The introduction of these online programs continues Sacred Heart University’s commitment to providing values based education in ways that meet the needs of today’s student.  This is the first of many offerings that will provide wider access to Sacred Heart University’s programs and faculty expertise.

“Extending our programs online is a very important strategic initiative for Sacred Heart University,” said Dr. Anthony J. Cernera, President of Sacred Heart University.  “Expanding our institutional reach through the use of online education allows us to serve more students with in-demand professional degrees that are consistent with our mission.”
