Daniel D. Thomas ’08 Funds SHU Book Scholarship

News Story: January 17, 2013

A Bridgeport native who benefitted from Sacred Heart University scholarship assistance, Daniel D. Thomas has created a fund that will help one city resident a year with the expense of books. A philosophy graduate of the Class of 2008, he set up the Daniel D. Thomas Scholarship Fund as a companion program to be used by a recipient of the Discovery Scholars program. This University initiative provides tuition-free education to students from Fairfield County with family incomes below $50,000; it was launched at last year’s Discovery Awards and Scholarship Dinner.

Now a successful real estate entrepreneur and the author of two books, Thomas has earmarked profits from the sale of his latest work, Love Is the Strongest Force, to provide $500 a year over the next 20 years to assist a Discovery Scholar with the cost of books. “I was able to achieve what I have,” he points out, “because of the financial assistance I received at Sacred Heart, and I want to help future scholars do the same.” Thomas explains that his theory is that “love is the strongest force, and through it we find purpose.” His earlier book was Prophecies of Life.
