ACADEMIC CLUBS
ACCOUNTING CLUB
The Accounting Club offers opportunities for students interested in accounting to explore the different career options available in the corporate world and the Accounting industry as a whole.
AMERICAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY
The student affiliate chapter of the American Chemical Society is very active not only in bringing science to the community, but also in bringing Sacred Heart University closer to the chemical community. One example ACS members’ community involvement is their “Science Ambassadors” program.
AMERICAN MEDICAL STUDENT ASSOCIATION (AMSA)
The Sacred Heart University chapter of the national American Medical Student Association is composed of students looking to join the health professions after graduation. AMSA’s philosophy centers on seeing doctors and patients as partners and promoting equal access to health care.
BIOLOGY CLUB
The Biology Club works toward educating SHU students about the many advancements in the field of biology. This education also applies to club members, as this club gives members a chance to discuss relevant topics with others students and faculty.
BUSINESS ADMIN. MANAGEMENT CLUB
The Business Admin. Management Club gives SHU students the opportunity to increase their knowledge of the business field. Majors and non-majors welcome.
COMPUTER SCIENCE CLUB
The Computer Science Club provides a forum where anyone can listen, learn or participate in lectures, discussions and projects, regardless of ability or previous knowledge of technology.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE CLUB
The Criminal Justice Club offers club meetings, guest speakers, lectures, field trips, and information on career opportunities in this field for all criminal justice majors, as well as non-majors.
EDUCATION CLUB
The English Club is committed to fulfilling students' interests in fine literature. The club facilitates academic discussion and helps to bring the Classics to all SHU students.

EXERCISE SCIENCE CLUB
The Exercise Science Club promotes physical activity and cardiovascular & musculoskeletal fitness. They also encourage the SHU community to engage in general fitness and to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
FINANCE AND ECONOMICS CLUB
The Finance and Economics Club provides support for all Finance and Economics majors. They work to give all students academic support, as well as work to increase their awareness of societal issues pertaining to finance and economics.
HEALTH SCIENCE CLUB
HISTORY CLUB
The History Club is for those who are interested in learning more about history. In the past, trips have been planned to Washington D.C. and various local museums. This is not just a club for history majors, but is open to all students.
MARKETING CLUB
The Marketing Club provides a community for students interested in the field of marketing. They work under the American Marketing Association to establish an academic and social environment that provides a practical marketing setting both on and off campus.
MATH CLUB
The Sacred Heart University math club was reconstituted in the spring of 2004 and is open to all students interested in math and science. At its bi-weekly meetings in the past, participants have enjoyed refreshments while watching science films or playing games of logic. Future plans include lectures from invited speakers, discussions of career opportunities in mathematics, hosting a campus-wide competition in logic games, and field-trips to museums and theaters.
POLITICS & INTERNATIONAL STUDIES
PAIS offers students the opportunity to express their political beliefs through student-led debates. Additionally, this club encourages members to actively expand their political awareness through speakers, films and volunteer work.

This club's purpose is to provide Pre-OT students with information on the graduate program, volunteer opportunities, and to set up mentorships. They strive to provide support to all of their members.
PRE-PHYSICAL THERAPY CLUB
The aim of the Pre-Physical Therapy Club is to provide Pre-PT students with information on the graduate program, volunteer opportunities and to set up a mentorship with graduate-level students.
PSYCHOLOGY CLUB
The purpose of the Psychology Club is the academic and social enrichment of club members through extracurricular activities, community service and discussions of psychological issues.
SOCIAL WORK CLUB
The Social Work Club commits itself to the Social Work program and the Sacred Heart University Community. The major areas of the club’s focus are field placements, mentoring the underclassmen, professional writing, and issues pertaining to social work careers.
SPORT MANAGEMENT ENTERPRISE
Sport Management Enterprise is a club designed for students that are passionate about sports. This club sponsors a number of events and provides opportunities for members to volunteer within the community.
STUDENT ATHLETIC TRAINING ORGANIZATION
SATO was established to aid students that are interested in a career in athletic training. The club educates its members by holding workshops and reviewing current procedures in accordance with the National Athletic Trainers Association.
STUDENT INVESTMENT TEAM
The Student Investment Team gives students an opportunity to learn about investing and gain the necessary related skills. Students may function as analysts, accountants, administrators, advertisers and much more.
STUDENT NURSES ASSOCIATION
The SNA is composed of undergraduates enrolled in the SHU Nursing Program and is an affiliate with the National Student Nurses Association. The purpose of the SNA is to promote professional development and awareness among all students preparing to be professional registered nurses.
MEDIA CLUBS
PIONEER MAGAZINE
Pioneer Magazine is a student run bi-yearly publication. The student editors are responsible for every aspect of the magazine, including coming up with story ideas, finding writers, constructing layouts and the final production of the magazine. Anyone interested in writing, editing, graphic design, public relations or publication management should take the time to learn more about getting involved with Pioneer. It is a great way to get involved in the media world and is an impressive extracurricular activity to have when trying to find jobs and internships.
PROLOGUE (Yearbook)
Established in 1967, Sacred Heart University's yearbook, the Prologue, has continued to strive for excellence by representing the entire campus community in a yearly publication. The goal is to provide the Senior Class with a comprehensive cataloging of activities, sports, and various other events, which have occurred throughout the academic year.
SHU BOX (Channel 3)

SPECTRUM (Newspaper)
The Spectrum produces the weekly University newspaper. It is responsible for establishing and maintaining an atmosphere of free and responsible discussion on campus. The paper is a means for bringing student concerns to the attention of the faculty and in aiding the students in formulating opinions on various issues. Also, the Spectrum highlights all major SHU events, athletic reports and pop culture issues.
THE PULSE
The Pulse is a student run production with a team of three full-time undergraduate staff members that work with students from TV News Magazine Production II class to produce weekly stories and columns, which we call, "Heart Beats." The Pulse is a showcase for university and local community stories and images. It serves as a venue for quality programming packaged in a digital video format that is currently distributed across multiple platforms, such as Channel 3 television, The Open Student Television Network (a college only internet TV channel), the SHU website, iTunesU and its very own "Pulse" website. The Pulse is a video news magazine that will engage Sacred Heart University students, faculty and staff, and serve as a shining example of our student’s creative skills and talents for those outside the SHU community. WHRT (Radio)
91.5 WHRT is open to all students who want to learn basic radio production skills. From hosting music shows, sports shows, talk shows and broadcasting school events, WHRT provides a diverse experience in radio broadcasting. MULTICULTURAL CLUBS
GAY/STRAIGHT ALLIANCE
The SHU GSA was started in the Fall of 2000 to promote a safe environment for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender students and their allies. Members organize events that promote a diverse and accepting environment and work to make Sacred Heart University a better place for all students, regardless of sexual orientation.
ITALIAN CLUB
The purpose of the Italian club is to foster understanding and appreciation of the Italian and Italian-American culture through lecture, social activities, and film. Previous events hosted by the Italian Club, include an Italian Feast, Italian Coffee House, and a trip to Little Italy in NYC.
LA HISPANIDAD
This organization gives students interested in Spanish and Latino heritage an opportunity to get together, exchange ideas, and get acquainted with one another. Moreover, La Hispanidad helps develop relationships and acts as a liaison between Sacred Heart University and the Spanish Community.
UMOJA
This club was created to promote unity and inclusion within the SHU community. Although UMOJA unites the African American culture, the doors are open to all students to join and learn more about each other. The visions of everyone on campus need to be seen through a multi-colored lens, and UMOJA hopes to encourage this mindset.
RECREATIONAL/SOCIAL CLUBS
AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE CLUB
The American Sign Language Club exposes the SHU community and surrounding area to sign language. The club provides insight into a culture that sometimes isn’t as widely recognized as other languages and cultures. Students can join to learn sign language or for the extra practice outside of the American Sign Language course.
BALLROOM DANCE CLUB
The purpose of this club is to help students develop confidence, grace, and knowledge of rhythm and dance. Students will participate in lead/follow activities and learn to Waltz, Fox Trot, Triple Swing, Single Swing, Salsa, Meringue and Tango. All students are welcome, regardless of level of experience.
CHESS CLUB
This club is for those who wish to learn the logic and strategy to master the game of chess. Joining this club is a good way for students that share this common interest to get together and learn the variety of ways to play.
COLLEGE DEMOCRATS
The College Democrats club is comprised of SHU Democrats that are committed to the party’s ideals. This group participates in local and state democratic functions, in addition to planning activities for SHU students on campus. Club members also take part in many different conventions to increase their knowledge of pertinent Democratic issues.
COLLEGE REPUBLICANS
College Republicans members are dedicated to promoting Republican ideals on campus by hosting events and participation in state-wide and national political events. They interact with the College Republican National Committee, and the Connecticut Union on College Republicans. Throughout the year, they host activities that allow them to meet Republican Party leaders at both the state and national level.
FASHION CLUB
This club provides students the opportunity to learn, discover, create and expand on today's fashion in respect to trends, budget, manufacturing, merchandising, designing, and any other factions of the fashion industry.
HALL COUNCILS
The governing body of each Residence Hall strives to create a community that functions to unite the residents with the University itself. This is achieved through programming, fundraising, and community service.
HEART ATTACK
The sole mission of Heart Attack is to foster, create, and provide opportunities to increase school spirit for all Sacred Heart University community members. SHU athletic events are a major focus of this group.
MARTIAL ARTS CLUB
The Martial Arts Club offers membership to students who are interested in the martial arts, regardless of previous experience. Members have the opportunity to attend Martial Arts classes at the University.
NATIONAL RESIDENCE HALL HONORARY
NRHH is composed of the top 1% of student leaders in the Residence Halls. They strive to recognize contributions within the Halls through their “of the month” recognition system.
RESIDENCE HALL ASSOCIATION
The Residence Hall Association strives to encourage a sense of community between all residence halls, on and off campus, and to promote school/hall spirit. In addition, RHA offers an open forum where all are welcome to voice their concerns about residential issues. RHA sponsors many events on campus, promoting active involvement and campus integration to accomplish their goals.
SHU FORCE
SHU F.O.R.C.E stands for Fusion of Rhythm, Creativity and Energy; a performance arts club established in 2003 that is focused around many types of dance genres. The dance ensemble practices all year to prepare for dance recitals in the spring semester, where they perform hip-hop, ballet, lyrical, modern, jazz, tap, fosse style and more! The club is open to all students that love to perform and pride themselves on their diverse dance techniques. SHU F.O.R.C.E is a committed, passionate and talented troupe that practices three times a week for the entire year, has three main performances in the Edgerton Center for the Performing Arts (Kick-Off in the fall semester and two Recitals in the spring semester), performs at many other events on campus (SHU Idol, Dance Team Exhibition, to name a few) and performs at other universities, venues and events off campus.
STUDENTS TODAY, ALUMNI TOMORROW
The Student Alumni Association works closely with the Office of Institutional Advancement to create relationships with current students that will last long after graduation. The main event coordinated by students and alumni involved in the club is Homecoming Weekend every October.
SERVICE CLUBS
ACTIVE MINDS
Members of Active Minds work to raise awareness on the Sacred Heart community about issues of mental health, symptoms of mental illness and relevant resources available to students. Major focus is paid to depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, eating disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder and generalized anxiety disorder. Active Minds works to act as a liaison between Sacred Heart University and the mental health community.
ARE YOU AUTISM AWARE?
Members of AYAA work to raise awareness for autism on campus, as well as in the Bridgeport and Fairfield communities. The club’s mission also asks members to promote anti-bullying and encourage open-mindedness.
BEST BUDDIES
Best Buddies works to enhance the lives of those with intellectual disabilities. Through the club's efforts, they offer events on campus for our SHU students, create relationships, work to offer social engagements, play games, and provide an environment where all who are involved can interact with and learn from each other. They hosted the first annual Midnight Madness Treasure Hunt for Best Buddies International on the SHU campus in 2009. This event provided an entire day and night of fun for our SHU students and Best Buddies members.
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
The purpose of the Sacred Heart University’s chapter of Habitat for Humanity is to work with the local Bridgeport affiliate in constructing homes, raising funds, and increasing awareness of housing issues in the community. This group provides SHU students the opportunity to rebuild the lives of those in the community and host events on the SHU campus, such as Sleep Outs, building sheds, gingerbread house creations during the holidays, and many others. ONE CAMPAIGN
Sacred Heart Students-united as ONE-are a service club dedicated to making poverty history. The SHU chapter is working on the ground in our campus community, as well as in the Greater Bridgeport Area, to educate and ask America's leaders to increase efforts to fight global AIDS and extreme poverty. They have provided programs on campus, co-sponsored lectures with the Student Life Office, and many more. The ONE campaign seeks to raise awareness about the issues of global poverty, hunger, disease, and the efforts to fight such problems in developing countries. United as ONE, we can make a difference. PEACE BY JUSTICE
Peace By Justice members are committed to acting as a source of research and understanding for issues of peace and justice - economic and environmental. Group members will educate themselves and their community on existing injustices, alternative methods to approaching these injustices, and discuss relevant examples of change, while highlighting past and present justice leaders.
CLUB
Through a partnership with the local Rotary club, Sacred Heart students promote community service and friendship on campus, as well as in neighboring communities. Members, known as Rotaractors, participate in discussions, attend lectures, host events and engage in service projects.
