Caryatids are draped, female figures supporting an entablature. The most famous of these are the female column figures on the porch of the Erechtheum, on the Acropolis, in Athens, Greece. Using Caryatids as a theme, works in this exhibition depict women who “support”, in all facets of life.

Mary Kordak has been a museum educator for many years, co-curated several exhibitions and authored several articles on African American and African art. She has received a Fullbright Fellowship, and the Connecticut Museum Educator of the Year award.
Poetry reading: Jay Wright,Tuesday, February 6, 7:00 PM
Jay Wright is an African American poet, essayist, theologian and dramaturge. His honors include the 1996 Academy of American Poets Fellowship, a Guggenheim fellowship, a MacArthur fellowship, and a National Endowment for the Arts grant.
Presented in cooperation with the Jerald Melberg Gallery in celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the College of Education and Health Professions, and with the support of the Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism and the National Endowment for the Arts.
