Peer Mentors are SHU Upperclassmen who assist the Mentor Program in a variety of activities. Each has a specific responsibility in reaching out to the Freshman class in individual and group settings to provide guidance and mentoring at the student-to-student, peer level.
These five students undergo a selective interview process and an intense training program to ensure they are ready to handle the challenges of mentoring their peers.
Amanda Francini--Community Service Peer Mentor

Hi, my name is Amanda Francini, and I am currently a sophomore here at SHU. I live in Berlin, CT and am majoring in Psychology and I am in the Pre-Occupational Therapy Program. A word of advice upon entering Sacred Heart: Transitioning from high school to college, from home life to the dorm life, is a difficult task. Moving in, being away from your family, and going to classes can be challenging but don't worry, in a couple of months you will feel right at home here at SHU! College is the best time to show what or who you can be, because you are on your own and you have to be responsible. Just know that there are people all around campus willing to help if you EVER need it. Don't hesitate to ask Peer Mentors, upper classman, professors, or administrators if you need help at any time, we are here for YOU. Finally, enjoy your time here at Sacred Heart it will go by much quicker than you may think, so...GET INVOLVED, SOCIALIZE, WORK HARD, but don't forget to have FUN.
Speaking of getting involved, planned for you this year in the Community Service category will be Habitat for Humanity work days, read alouds to children in homeless shelters, tutoring children in the local Bridgeport elementary schools, creatively painting over graffiti, along with various other events that you should come and find out for yourself! These events are great way to meet friends, have fun, and give back to the community all at once!
Michele Gannon--Peer Mentor for On-line Communities and Advertising
Hi! My name is Michele and I (unbelievably) am a senior here at SHU and I'm from Montville, New Jersey (in Morris County, for all you Jersey-ans!). I am a Psychology major with plans to attend grad school for Occupational Therapy (probably back in NJ). It might sound cliche, but what I like most about SHU is the people I've met! If you were to ask me during my senior year of high school what my ideal school would look like, it would not have been SHU at the time, but I honestly can't imagine myself anywhere else! Freshmen, be sure to simply GET OUT THERE! You will be astonished at what unexpected things you'll find that will truly define your time in college as the best years of your life! This year I would love to just find the most effective way to really speak TO the freshmen at SHU instead of just AT them, and to pave a smooth road for the next four years!!!
Caitlyn Groh--Undergraduate Nursing Peer Mentor
Hi! My name is Caitlyn and I am a nursing major and sophomore at Sacred Heart. I’m from Wellesley, Massachusetts. I had a great freshman year at Sacred Heart and I’m very excited to go back for my second year! Going into my freshman year though, I was scared and nervous what college would be like but now looking back I know that I never needed to be scared. It’s easy to be hesitant and stay in your comfort zone the first couple weeks of school but trust me, don’t. Get out there and meet everyone you can, do everything and regret nothing. Have fun! And if you every need anything, all of the mentors and peer mentors are always here to help you. For all nursing majors, come find me and get to know each other, you are each other’s best resources. I can’t wait to meet all of you in the fall!
Rob Napolitano--Recreational Events Peer Mentor

I'm entering my sophomore year here, and Sacred Heart has quickly become a second home to me. I have had many amazing experiences here and I have made many amazing friendships. It is so easy to immerse yourself in the fun community that is Sacred Heart. As soon as you set foot on campus you will be met with hundreds of new faces and even more exciting opportunities. Take advantage of all that SHU has to offer. For this year I have many exciting events planned for the Recreational Events/Club Sports department. Please look out for teh Freshman Fall Sports Fair on September 13, which will give you a chance to explore many of the club sports here on campus AND play some fun games. Feel free to contact me with any questions! See you soon!
Kristine Sisco--Senior Nursing Peer Mentor

Hey there! My name is Kristine Sisco and I am a senior Nursing student from Wood-Ridge, New Jersey. This is my second year as a nursing peer mentor! I have a lot of experience and have gone through what most of you will your freshmen year. Being a nursing student at SHU is challenging, but has made me the person who I am today. I will be here as a resource for you as you begin your journey at SHU. I am looking forward to working with Caitlyn and all of you during the school year. We will be planning events for freshmen nursing students to get you better acclimated to SHU, the community and one another. I look forward to meeting you all in September!
