Registration fee: Regular Exam fee is $225
When to take the test: The test is administered every April and August. It is generally recommended that the test be taken in the year before applying to medical school. The April test date is suggested because applications can then be completed in summer and early fall. If a student is unhappy with his or her previous score, he or she can retake the test in August and those scores can be submitted as well with the earlier scores.
Scores: Four scores are generated, one for each section of the test. The raw score for each section is based on the number of multiple choice questions answered correctly. There is no penalty for incorrect or unanswered questions. The raw scores are then put on a scale from 1 (lowest) to 15 (highest). For the writing sample, two readers score each of the two samples, all four of which combine to produce your raw score on this section. This is then converted to a letter system, with scores graded J (lowest) to T (highest).
Test Components: 4 sections: 3 multiple choice and 1 Writing Sample
- Verbal Reasoning (85 minutes)
- Physical Sciences (100 minutes)
- Writing Sample (60 minutes)
