Introduction
Preparation before each and every interview is critical for success. By no means exhaustive, this checklist may help you to think through your interview process in advance.
Pre-Interview Checklist
- Have you researched this company/organization thoroughly?
- Have you checked the latest stock market close or the closing price of the company's stock? (for financial positions and/or publicly held companies)
- Do you have a list of relevant and smart questions?
- Have you prepared and practiced answers to a variety of interview questions/types?
- What are your concerns about this company/job/industry/interview? Have you developed a plan for addressing these?
- Have you reviewed the qualifications for this position?
- Can you identify which of your skills and experiences are most relevant for this position? Can you provide examples of these?
- Can you anticipate any concerns the interviewer may have about your background and experience? Have you considered how you will address these?
- Have you established your objectives for the meeting?
- Do you know with whom you will be meeting?
- Do you know the structure of the interview (especially if it is an advanced round meeting)?
- Do you have clear directions and know how long it will take to get there?
- Do you know whom to ask for when you arrive?
- Do you know the name(s) of the recruiting coordinator, assistant, or other important support staff for this meeting?
- Do you have an emergency contact number for a key person at the organization?
- Did you make extra copies of your resume? Do you know how you will carry them?
- Do you know what you will bring with you?
- Do you know how you will dress/what you will wear?
- Have you thought about what is the worst that could happen? Do you know how you will respond to this? Have you considered contingency plans?
- Have you taken a deep breath and tried to relax? Interviewing can be fun and a terrific learning experience if you let it be one.
