Prior to joining the Office of Special Services in 2009 as Assistant to the Director, Beverly Boehmke worked as Academic Department Assistant in the English Department at Sacred Heart University for sixteen years. Beverly graduated Summa Cum Laude from SHU in 2003 with a B.A. in General Studies. She resides with her husband Paul in Trumbull, Connecticut. They have two grown children. Beverly is an avid cook and, in her spare time, she enjoys traveling, crossword puzzles, and, most recently, bicycle riding.

Jim Malerba is the tutor for Special Services, He reviews and edits essays on almost any subject. In addition to those duties, Jim is an adjunct in the English and Religious Studies Departments. He also helps out the Assistant to the Director with test requests for students who utilize extended time testing as an academic accommodation. He holds an undergraduate degree in English and graduate degrees in Organizational Psychology and Religion. Jim and his wife, Dottie, have two children, Jim and Jennifer.

Nicole McKeon is a four-year employee of Sacred Heart University and works full time as a C-Print captionist. She works with deaf, hard-of-hearing, and disabled students. Nicole loves what she does at SHU. She is a graduate of Northwestern Community College in Connecticut with an A.A. in Deaf Studies. Currently, she is enrolled in a part-time B.A. program, though she has not yet chosen her major. Nicole is also an associate member of the Registry of Interpreters for the deaf (RID). In her free time, she enjoys doing volunteering teaching the Bible in American Sign Language (ASL).

Terri has been with the University for over 15 years; first with the English Department working in the Academic Incentive Program and with the freshman orientations. Terri now works here in the Office of Special Services with Director, Jill Angotta. She enjoys working with the professors and tutors, reading exams to students, and securing scribes for our students with disabilities. If you need supplies, Terri is our go-to-gal for anything from pens to datebooks to ink for the printers. In her spare time, she loves to cook, garden and go to her family vacation house in Hampton Bays, L.I.

Since 1999, Rebecca Niemeyer has worked at Sacred Heart as a C-Print Captionist and Oral Transliterator. She trained in C-Print in 1998 and she is the Lead Captionist at Sacred Heart. She received an AS in Interpreting for the Deaf from Northwestern Connecticut Community College in 1998 and a BS in Finance from Sacred Heart University in 2007. She is currently working on obtaining her master’s degree.

As one of our Content Area Tutors, Phani works one-on-one with students with disabilities to help them understand the concepts of math. But this is not the only hat she wears. Phani is also the Jandrisevits Learning Center’s (JLC) Math Tutor Coordinator. Along with supervising the JLC’s Math Peer tutors, Phani also teaches several workshops on mathematics.

Darlene Mihalakos has worked at Sacred Heart University since 2004 as an American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter, Oral Transliterator, and C-Print Captionist. She is a nationally certified Transliterator and Oral Transliterator through the Registry Interpreters for the Deaf (RID). She is a Religious Studies major and advisor of the American Sign Language club at Sacred Heart University. Darlene enjoys building sand castles and bike riding with her daughters, Ana and Sophia.
