ADDITIONAL BILLABLE SERVICES
Upon written request of the student each semester, a flat fee is charged for one or all of the services listed below.  If students choose not to participate in these additional services, then services will be provided under federal law (see Mandated Services Section).

L.D. Trained Specialists:  Along with the Director of Special Services (DSS), there is a fulltime Assistant to the Director who is trained in various testing, note taking, and study methods appropriate for the learning disabled and physically challenged.  A second L.D. specialist works part-time for the Jandrisevits Learning Center.

Content Area Tutors:  Depending on the needs of the students, the DSS hires content area tutors to work one-on-one with students with disabilities in disciplines across the curriculum.  These specialized tutors, who are available during specific daytime and evening hours, have at least a Master's Degree, and in some cases, a Ph.D., in their field.  During the fall 2002 semester the content area tutors provided close to 30 hours of individualized instruction to students with disabilities.

Technical Services:  A closed caption note-taking system provides notes for students who choose to avail themselves of an additional academic accommodation beyond those required by law.

Hired Scribes:  An upper class student not registered for the course who attends the class for the sole purpose of taking notes for the student requesting the service is available.  Scribes are paid not only for taking class notes, but also for tutoring and assisting with homework assignments.

Academic Coaching:  A personal service is available that assists learning and physically challenged students to develop organizational life-skills that will foster independence and increase their opportunities for academic success.
