COURSE OFFERINGS

University College offers a flexible learning environment with classes offered on the weekend, in the evening, online and during summer and winter intersession to accommodate even the busiest of schedules. In addition, the accelerated degree program, called AHEAD, allows students to earn degrees in Business Administration or Finance in a much faster time frame.

Weekend University
Weekend University offers core curriculum courses for every major, designed for working adults who find it difficult to attend evening classes during the week.  Classes meet every other weekend, allowing the busy adult more time to spend with family and deal with work-related responsibilities, as well as providing time to complete course work.  Courses from the weekend schedule may be combined with courses from the AHEAD program.

Online Learning
Sacred Heart University's Online Learning is an Internet-based teaching/learning experience.  The University uses Blackboard as its electronic delivery and learning platform.  Blackboard is a web-based system, which provides a user-friendly interface with simple point and click access to course content, collaborative workspaces and online resource centers.  It is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and allows for easy information interchange between student and instructor.  Courses require that students work both independently and interdependently with their instructor and with fellow students.  Participants in these courses must maintain their own Internet access and have Microsoft Word or compatible word processing software.

When you register for an online course, you can expect equivalent content and opportunity for learning comparable to students who take the same course on campus.  Online courses are not easy, fast-paced replacements for regular on-campus classes.  Rather, they require self-motivation and a serious approach to learning, as much of the coursework is done individually without the in-person guidance of the instructor.  With a positive attitude, an appropriate place in which to study and a structured schedule to keep you on track, your success with online learning is assured. Please contact the Office of Instructional Technology (203-365-7613) if you have any questions.

Winter Intersession
Our winter intersession classes enable students to obtain three undergraduate credits in only two weeks.

Accelerated Degree Program - AHEAD
AHEAD is the University College accelerated degree program in Business Administration and Finance. The core curriculum is the same for all University majors, therefore AHEAD core courses are available to all part-time students. AHEAD provides working adults the unique opportunity to complete an Associate or Baccalaureate Degree program in half the time of a traditional part-time program. AHEAD has been designed specifically for working adults interested in completing their degree in a realistic timeframe.

AHEAD consists of five terms per year. Classes are offered in an accelerated format consisting of seven and a half week terms. Classes meet either two nights a week for 2 hours and 15 minutes per night or 1 night for 4 hours and 15 minutes. Students can take up to 6 credits each term.

Admission to AHEAD is open to anyone with a high school diploma or the equivalent.  Applicants should be at least 23 years of age, with three years or more of work experience.  Applicants not meeting these requirements may apply to be accepted under special circumstances. Those individuals with previously earned college credit can transfer up to 66 credits from two-year colleges and 90 credits from four-year institutions.

For more information regarding admission or registration, please contact /22830_!uc@sacredheart.edu or call 203-371-7830.
