MASTER OF SCIENCE IN GERIATRIC HEALTH & WELLNESS
At Sacred Heart University, we pride ourselves on graduate programs whose byword is innovation. And so it is with the graduate program for Geriatric Health and Wellness (GHW).

Based on the latest philosophies guiding this field of study, and staffed by a faculty whose experience spans Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Nursing, this program incorporates a host of innovations to prepare students for the challenges of the 21st century geriatric care:

An Interdisciplinary Approach to Learning, providing the wide array of knowledge required to treat a broad diversity of conditions, from chronic ailments to acute illness.

A Contemporary Curriculum rooted in "evidence-based" health care practice leading to more effective evaluations, interventions and outcomes.

A Cutting-Edge Format, which employs internet-based "distance-Learning" supplemented by on-campus weekend seminars with faculty and other geriatric experts.

An Integrated Philospohy which emphasizes building/working with an effective interdisciplinary team, and promoting health/wellness by considering a multitude of treatment options, including therapeutic, medical and holistic care.

At Sacred Heart, it is our mission to provide you with the training and skills necessary to promote health and wellness, to stem physical and mental decline, and to provide appropriate and effective care to those at risk of functional limitation and disability.

Moreover, it is our firm belief that those who successfully complete the program will emerge as leaders of healthcare teams, effective advocates for the elderly and their families, experts in comprehensive care, respected clinical instructors, and innovators whose ideas and work have a positive and lasting effect on geriatric healthcare.

Development and implementation of the MS GHW program has been supported by the Elders 2000 Grant (1997-2000) and the GREAT Initiative (2001-2004), US Department of Health and Human Services, Bureau of Health Professions, Allied Health Program
