The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Athletic Training is designed for students interested in pursuing a career in athletic training. The didactic and clinical components provide students the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills specific to athletic training. Completion of the program leads to eligibility to take the Board of Certification (BOC) examination. Graduates of this program are prepared to pursue careers or graduate programs in athletic training or other related health fields (i.e., physical therapy, exercise physiology, bio mechanics).
The Athletic Training program is based on a strong science-oriented core curriculum that provides students the necessary foundation to enhance the professional coursework. The curriculum is designed to promote students' development of human values, effective interpersonal skills and a scientific foundation through effective learning.
The program utilizes a problem-based learning approach in the clinical coursework to foster critical thinking and promote the use of evidence-based practice. The major provides opportunity for students to enhance their knowledge through practical experience in a variety of clinical settings. Students participate in six semesters of clinical experience to gain a wide variety of clinical education experiences under the direct supervision of an Athletic Trainer or other approved clinical instructors (ACIs) and clinical instructors (CIs).
