Welcome to the Department of Business Economics and Finance
It is my pleasure to welcome you the Department of Business Economics and Finance at the John F. Welch College of Business at Sacred Heart University.
The Business Economics program gives students a solid understanding of today's global business environment and market structure. It combines in-depth study of economic theory with business applications within an ethical framework. Students acquire the analytical and problem solving skills needed to investigate and critically evaluate economic trends and business conditions. Our program is designed to prepare students to succeed in business and government careers, graduate schools, law schools as well as to become better-informed and productive citizens. As a student in the John F. Welch College of Business you will be provided the opportunity to attend presentations by business experts and to participate in extracurricular experiential learning opportunities. Internships are widely available and strongly encouraged. We have a student run chapter of Students in Free Enterprise and participate annually in the Fed Challenge competition hosted by the New York Federal Reserve. Some of our graduates have pursued careers in corporations and banks, including General Electric, Fleet, and People's Bank while others are successful entrepreneurs. Other alumni have enrolled in doctoral programs and law schools.
Finance and Economics courses are offered by a knowledgeable and experienced team of professors who are active not only in the classroom but also through research, policy advising and consulting. The faculty collaborate with both domestic and international academic and research institutions, advise governments, and provide consulting and training to corporations and banks. Our scholarly accomplishments are shared with students, both in the undergraduate programs and in the MBA programs in Fairfield, Stamford and Luxembourg.
I am pleased to invite you to explore the Business Economics and Finance majors and I welcome you to our community of scholars.
