The effective use of financial information is vital for decision makers in business, industry, banking, government, education, law and many related fields. Individuals with a strong background in accounting and finance are in great demand for positions such as financial analysts, estate planners, investment counselors, market researchers, auditors, comptrollers and accounting managers.

- Understand accounting concepts, principles, and theories
- Understand the various professional codes of ethics and current ethical issues
- Understand internal accounting systems, controls, and reports for decision-making purposes
- Understand how to use the concepts in practical applications and analyze the results
- Develop an awareness of the career and graduate school opportunities available in the field of accounting, especially the requirements for the CPA, CMA, and CIA designations
