Accounting Major Program Goals
1. Our graduates will have a solid theoretical framework and knowledge of core business disciplines and related functional skills
2. Our graduates will be aware of the ethical dimensions of the business disciplines and will develop a personal ethical decision-making framework
3. Our graduates will understand the impact and the opportunities offered by information technology in business and develop effective technology-use skills
4. Our graduates will have effective oral and written communication skills
5. Our graduates will be critical thinkers and problem solvers
6. In the four major areas of financial accounting, managerial accounting, auditing, and taxation, accounting majors will:
a. Understand professional and regulatory requirements
b. Understand accounting concepts, principles, and theories
c. Understand the various professional codes of ethics and current ethical issues
d. Understand internal accounting systems, controls, and reports for decision-making purposes
e. Understand how to use the concepts in practical applications and analyze the results
f. Develop an awareness of the career and graduate school opportunities available in the field of accounting, especially the requirements for the CPA, CMA, and CIA designations.
