PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
While the foundation for education is our academic program, the education that continues outside of the classroom is one of the key components to a successful career.

Boardroom ProfessionalsProfessional development opportunities such as internships, working with Mentors, and speaking with professionals across various fields, allow a student to gain the experience necessary to narrow down career choices, build a resume, and finish your undergraduate education with confidence and goals rather than fear of the unknown.

We partner closely with Career Development and Placement and guide our students through the steps that place them into meaningful internships.

Each Freshman in the College of Business has the opportunity to be paired up with a Welch Mentor, a junior student in the WCOB who will take freshmen to upper-level classes to get a feel for academic expectations, accompany freshmen to Welch Experience events, or to the Career Development and Placement Center to get started on a professional resume. If you’re a freshman who missed the banquet and didn’t get paired with a Mentor, click the link to the left to request a Mentor now!

In addition, each Sophomore can choose to be paired with an Alumni Mentor. Alumni Mentors are graduates of the Welch College of Business who volunteer to mentor our Sophomores through job shadowing, career and other advice, and more. These opportunities lead sophomores to expand their network, gain a better understanding of different careers, and in some cases, internship and job opportunities as well. If you’d like to request an Alumni Mentor, please click the link to the left.

Finally, there are many MANY applications of a business major. Too often, students limit themselves to thinking Finance majors have to work on Wall Street, or Accounting Majors have to work at accounting firms. While these are great aspirations, it is important to remember the opportunities that exist in other areas. The music industry needs accountants too, so why not combine a love for music with your career?

Students can explore their options in our series entitled The Business of..., in which professionals from different areas of business share their stories, experiences, and answer student questions. View past and future speakers...
