HISTORY
It is clear that peers play a unique and powerful role in developing a healthy campus culture. Research continues to support the use of a student-to-student network as part of a comprehensive approach to alcohol prevention. Therefore, in 2004, the Sacred Heart University Alcohol and other Drug Coalition established a new Peer Education group for our university.
The Peer Education Advisory Committee, representing Athletics, Residence Life, Judicial Affairs, Health Services, the Counseling Center, and the Freshman Mentor program, worked throughout the year to lay the groundwork for a new Peer Education program at SHU. The group is now based out of the Wellness Center, and continues to work closely with other members of Student Affairs.

In 2009, in an effort to create a recognizable identity and cut through the clutter on campus, SHU Peer Educators launched a new brand, logo, and tag-line: “a healthy life is a s.w.e.e.t. life”. The group is now known as s.w.e.e.t. (Student Wellness Education and Empowerment Team).
