Alicia Spiro earned a BS in Physical Therapy at Ithaca College and a MS in Physical Therapy with a concentration in Adult Neuro at Long Island University.  She is also NDT/IBITA Certified in management of Adults with Hemiplegia.

Professor Spiro has practiced in all settings, initially at Jacobi Hospital, NY and in CT for 18 years.  Areas of clinical concentration include Adult Neuro, Geriatrics and Cardiopulmonary.  She has also held the role of Clinical Instructor to Physical Therapy students in all these settings.

Initially, Professor Spiro joined Sacred Heart University as a Special Topics lecturer in Semester V; Medicare Reimbursement in Sub-Acute Rehab.  She then joined the adjunct staff as a Tutorial Leader in Semester II (Neurologic Disorders) and Semester V (Healthcare Delivery Systems).  She will now teach in the lab portion of Semester II and Semester III (Cardiopulmonary and Medically Complex Patient).

As a clinician in a primarily Geriatric setting, she has developed areas of expertise in Fall Prevention, Wound Prevention and Custom Wheelchair Seating/Positioning.  She has published an article for promoting ways for the elderly to remain safely in their homes.
