KEVIN K. CHUI, PT, PH.D., GCS
Dr. Chui completed a B.S. in Health Science and M.S. in Physical Therapy from Long Island University and a Ph.D. in Pathokinesiology from New York University. During his postgraduate education at New York University, Dr. Chui was a Research Assistant in the Human Performance Laboratory and worked with the Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center at the VA Medical Center.
Research interests of Dr. Chui include examining different movement patterns to test motor control theories and measurement and evaluation of balance. For his dissertation Dr. Chui compared selected walking parameters between patients with vestibular pathology and healthy individuals using a Dynamic Systems Theory framework. Previous research conducted on the Modular Lightweight Load Carrying Equipment, a new load carriage system developed by the United States Marine Corps and Army, was presented at national APTA meetings and published in Military Medicine. Dr. Chui currently serves on the Research Committee of the Connecticut Physical Therapy Association.
Teaching competencies of Dr. Chui include: geriatric and musculoskeletal patient care, measurement and evaluation of movement, research methods and statistics, and kinesiology. He currently teaches: 1) first and second year DPT students, 2) students in the Graduate Program in Geriatric Rehabilitation and Wellness, 3) and undergraduate Exercise Science and Athletic Training students in the Human Movement Science program.
Dr. Chui has focused his clinical practice on geriatric patient care in nursing home, sub-acute, homecare, and assisted living settings. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties, recognized as a Geriatric Certified Specialist. During his clinical practice Dr. Chui has functioned as a staff physical therapist, education coordinator, patient coordinator of care, and most recently as a rehabilitation director.
