Sacred Heart University offers ESL courses (English as a Second Language), full-time and part-time on our Stamford and Fairfield campuses. Classes are offered in 7-week semesters during the day, evenings and on weekends.
Students enrolled in 18 hours of class per week are eligible to apply for a student visa (Form –I 20) from Sacred Heart University. Please contact Pam Barnum at barnump@sacredheart.edu for more visa information.
New students are given a placement test to determine their English proficiency before their first class. Placement in classes is based on the results of this test. Testing dates and costs are posted on the SHELI web site.
Full time students take classes for 18 hours a week, Monday to Friday. The curriculum includes grammar, writing, reading, listening and comprehension. At Sacred Heart, we also teach presentation skills, pronunciation, and accent correction as well as academic or business writing and TOEFL/TOEIC test preparation.
Small classes of 5 to 12 students allow teachers to adapt to the needs of the students. Our professors pride themselves in providing one on one attention to their students. At the Sacred Heart English Language Institute every student is given the instruction he or she needs to succeed.
Students who successfully complete their ESL classes at the Sacred Heart English Language Institute are not required to take another proficiency test to enroll in other degree programs at Sacred Heart University. Admission to SHELI does not guarantee admission to the University. Our academic advisors will assist you in working toward a university degree.
