SHU RANKS IN TOP TIER AMONG ‘US NEWS’ LIST OF TOP COLLEGES
Fairfield, Conn.—Sacred Heart University again ranks among the best universities in the North, according to U.S.News & World Report's 2006 edition of America's Best Colleges. SHU is listed in the top tier of the category “Best Universities – Master's in the North.”

“Being ranked among the best by U.S.News & World Report is a great endorsement of Sacred Heart University's outstanding faculty, undergraduate students and academic programs. We're obviously pleased to be included among the best in our region,” said James Barquinero, SHU's vice president for Enrollment Planning and Student Affairs.

“While guidebooks are often used as a first step in the college search process, it's important for students to visit the universities that interest them the most. Nothing will tell students more about how they may fit in than visiting the campus, taking a tour and meeting with students, faculty and an admissions counselor,” he continued.

U.S.News & World Report's America's Best Colleges survey guides high school students as they embark on their college search. Information is collected by U.S. News from a variety of sources, including educational associations, the U.S. Government and the schools themselves.

Dr. Gary Rose, professor and chair of the Department of Politics and Government, feels that Sacred Heart University is being recognized for the growing scholarly reputation of the faculty, for attracting top students and for its impressive student-professor ratios.

While Sacred Heart University has grown to become the second-largest Catholic university in New England, it is still a place where students regularly connect one-on-one with distinguished faculty. Students at SHU benefit from a well-rounded liberal arts education rooted in the Catholic intellectual tradition and a commitment to excellence.

The best universities in the master's category are ranked in four geographic areas—North, South, Midwest and West. Fifteen indicators of academic excellence, including student selectivity, financial resources, graduation rate, retention, faculty resources, alumni giving rate, and peer assessment weigh in to rank each school.
