SACRED HEART UNIVERSITY PROVIDES EMERGENCY STUDY OPPORTUNITIES FOR THOSE DISLOCATED BY HURRICANE KATRINA
FAIRFIELD, Conn.—Sacred Heart University will open its doors to any college or university student displaced by Hurricane Katrina.
Dr. Anthony J. Cernera, the University's president, expressed the profound sympathy of the University community for those affected by this disaster, adding, “We will work with any student from an institution that has been closed by the hurricane. We will craft a program of study that will contribute to the student's progress. Our hope and our prayer is that these students will be able to return to their schools as quickly as possible and with as little interruption to their studies as possible.”
For emergency temporary admission, students affected by the storm should contact the University's Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Thomas V. Forget, at 203-371-7910 or at forgett@sacredheart.edu. The University will provide a personalized advising program to ensure that each student's course load closely matches his or her academic needs. Related concerns, such as housing, can be explored individually with each student.
Dr. Cernera noted that the University expresses its prayerful solidarity with those who have lost loved ones or property. A special fund has been set up on campus to assist those who have been displaced, and other initiatives are being developed throughout the campus community. Alumni and others who wish to participate in these efforts may contact 203-371-7840. Students are returning to campus this weekend for the beginning of classes on Tuesday, September 6th.
