On March 15, 2011 the Geriatric Health & Wellness Programs and University College of Sacred Heart University are presenting Health Care & The Aging: A Symposium for the 21st Century.
This symposium is being presented to the Sacred Heart University community, local geriatric professionals and to anyone who has an interest in the welfare of the elderly population. Our intentions are to foster education and communication as well as engage our communities in the issues presented by our aging population.
The program will commence at 6:30pm with light refreshments and will then continue at 7:00pm with a screening of the
Young @ Heart movie.
Young @ Heart is a documentary about a senior citizen chorus from Massachusetts who perform songs by artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Coldplay and Sonic Youth. Afterwards Dr. Salome Brooks, Program Director of the Geriatric Health and Wellness Program, will lead a panel discussion followed by audience questions.
The panel will include Dr. Raymond M. Gabriele, Gerontologist and Adjunct Professor in the Geriatric Health and Wellness Program; Kathy Abrahamsen, Director of Admissions at the Carolton Chronic & Convalescent Hospital in Fairfield, CT. and Suzanne Bastos, a Physical Therapist and Geriatric Clinical Specialist at The Springs at Watermark, Bridgeport, CT. Suzanne is also a graduate of the Geriatric Health and Wellness Master’s Degree program and currently teaches in the program.
