Beginning Fall 08, the Liturgical Choir (MU198) will meet on Sundays at 6:45 to prepare music for the Liturgy at 8:00 PM. The choir will also rehearse on Wednesdays during the convocation hour, from 2-3:15 in Room A. The choir sings a wide variety of sacred repertoire, from Gregorian chant to contemporary and traditional hymns, responses and service music.
Students selected by audition to participate in the Liturgical Choir will receive a $2,000 yearly renewable grant. These singers should show high potential and musical promise. Preference will be given to students with strong musical and choral ensemble experience, and to those who are willing to make a firm commitment to the program throughout the academic year.
Auditions take place in late January and early February preceeding the following academic year in which they are awarded.
Students selected will serve the community by singing in the choir. There will be opportunities to serve as cantors, soloists and section leaders in the choir.
Interested students contact the director, Dr. John Michniewicz, michniewiczj@sacredheart.edu or by phone at 203-371-7735 to arrange for a short placement audition and interview. The audition will consist of singing vocal warm-ups, a prepared song, and reading through a choral excerpt.
