Christopher Kelly, Assistant Professor of Religious Studies, PhD from the University of Iowa, BA, MA in Religious Studies from the University of South Florida. Professor Kelly works in the field generally defined as historical theology. His area of specialty is in Christian late antiquity/early middle ages. Within this time span, however, his expertise in the development of Christian monasticism, particularly as it migrates from East to West. His recent work includes a forthcoming article in Cistercian Studies Quarterly on the concept of the desert in Eucherius of Lyon's De laude eremi and a forthcoming book with Ashgate Press on John Cassian's use of scripture to promote a monastic ideal. Professor Kelly joined the faculty in 2008 and teaches a range of courses, including Introduction to the Study of Religion; The Human Search for Truth, Justice, and the Common Good; The Development of Christian Thought; and Monks, Hermits, and Warriors.
