LAREN VIHRACHOFF OF RIDGE, NEW YORK, WINS NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED BY AMERICAN PHYSICAL THERAPY ASSOCIATION
FAIRFIELD, Conn., May 19, 2004—Lauren Vihrachoff, of Ridge, N.Y., has been awarded a prestigious Minority Scholarship Award For Academic Excellence sponsored by the Physical Therapy Foundation, a non-profit organization supported by the American Physical Therapy Association. The $5,000 scholarship was one of only eight awarded in an annual national competition.
Vihrachoff earned her Master of Science degree in Physical Therapy from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Conn., in May. She plans to specialize in pediatric physical therapy.
In commenting on her award, Vihrachoff said: “Receiving the APTA minority scholarship award means a lot to me. While studying for my Masters at Sacred Heart, I dedicated many hours to promoting diversity and providing much-needed services to minorities. This made the award especially meaningful and a wonderful honor to receive.”
In recognition of the growing need for physical therapy services across a variety of age groups, Sacred Heart University has recently announced a new Doctor of Physical Therapy program, the first in the state of Connecticut. The program will welcome its first students in September.
