Digital/Multimedia Journalism (DMJ)
The DMJ program updates the skill sets of practicing journalists while also training aspiring journalists to be a one-person crew and “all platform” news producers in the post-print, digital era. Although traditional journalism outlets are facing a moment of crisis, this change provides new job opportunities for news producers and new media journalists trained in the latest technologies and multimedia techniques. Students benefit from MACOMM's partnership with
Vision Project and its journalists who are also on the MACOMM faculty. A 12-credit MACOMM certificate in DMJ is also offered.
Digital/Multimedia Production (DMP)
For MACOMM students not looking to enter the professions of Corporate Communication/PR or Journalism, the DMP option allows them to gain advanced production skills tailored to their specific interests in areas like sport/athletic communication, advertising or advanced digital film and video production. A 12-credit MACOMM certificate in DMP is also offered.
MACOMM students learn to
communicate effectively through a variety of media platforms, including video, television, social networks, podcasts, multimedia websites, and other methods of traditional and online or mobile communication.
Hands-on production courses are combined with
professional internships and capstone mentorships with established communications and media industry professionals. By the completion of the MACOMM degree, students will have compiled a robust
portfolio of professional materials that demonstrates the advanced skill sets necessary to excel in their respective job sectors. Along the way, students’ productions will also be
distributed, broadcast, and/or published through various media outlets while they are completing their MACOMM coursework.
