Carl Rossi '73
Like most people, Carl Rossi ’73 has had a variety of jobs – and even careers – since leaving Sacred Heart University with a bachelor’s degree in history. And, although he originally came to SHU to join his cousin Joe and to be at a school with a radio station, he attributes his years here to giving him a lifelong desire to learn and to give back. He earned his master’s degree in business administration 23 years after graduation from SHU and is also certified as a Six Sigma Black Belt and a Certified Supply Chain Manager from the American Production and Inventory Control Society.

Adam Fuller '98
Although Adam Fuller ’98 earned his degree in Criminal Justice, he has been employed as a coach since he graduated from Sacred Heart University. His first job after graduation was an entry level job at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, MA. Today he is entering his third season as the defensive coordinator at the University of Tennessee – Chattanooga. “I have been extremely fortunate to have been hired by some great coaches and people. I worked at Wagner College under Walt Hameline who is a great leader and taught me a lot about recruiting as well as how to be focused and get results,” Fuller said.

Dianne Auger ‘83, MBA ‘86
Dianne Auger ‘83, MBA ‘86, interim Regional CEO of the Greater New York Region of the American Red Cross, has a long history with Sacred Heart University. Not only did she earn her bachelor’s and master’s degree here, but she also spent a year as SHU’s director of Corporate Relations. When Auger attended SHU it was a commuter school. She lived at home and helped pay her tuition by working as a teller at People’s Bank whenever she wasn’t in classes. She began working in the Marketing Department when she was a senior in college and then went through the bank’s management training program as soon as she graduated.

Paul Timpanelli '69
Taking a glance around Paul Timpanelli’s spacious 14th-floor office at the Bridgeport Regional Business Council (BRBC) headquarters in Bridgeport, one quickly takes note of the framed, strategically placed photographs of him with local and national leaders. Scores of patriotic Uncle Sam figurines of all shapes and sizes crowd a large credenza against a wall near an oval table where there are several chairs. On this day, Timpanelli is wearing an American flag tie, and it’s evident that this man is dedicated to his country and community. Equally important is his role as president of the BRBC. Timpanelli’s tasks include guiding the overall direction of the BRBC and executing and overseeing project development, including economic development in the Park City – a major focus of its charge.

Sarah Galluzzo '94
Like most folks these days, Sarah Gauthier Galluzzo ’94 of Fairfield has tried her hand at several different careers since graduating from Sacred Heart University, but she attributes her success at every one to the skills she developed during her college years. Galluzzo graduated from SHU with a double major in English (with a writing concentration) and sociology and then went on to earn a master’s of arts degree in writing from Manhattanville College while working full time as a copywriter. Perhaps her biggest claim to fame as a copywriter is naming the “Over the Moon” milk product for Garelick Farms.

Erik Johnson '04, MAT '05
Erik J. Johnson ’04 considers James Madison, the fourth president of the United States and “the father of the Constitution,” one of his heroes, so it is only fitting that the Sacred Heart University alumnus has been named a James Madison Fellow. Johnson, a seventh- and eighth-grade history teacher at Park City Science and Technology Magnet School in Bridgeport, Conn., tells his students that Madison is his favorite of the men who crafted the U.S. Constitution.

Ginny Capicchioni '01
Ginny Capicchioni ’01 is making history. “Making history” is a phrase that’s often tossed around by sports analysts, but in this case, it happens to be true. Capicchioni recently returned from tending goal at the World Indoor Lacrosse Championships in Prague. Make that the Men’s Indoor Lacrosse Championships. Capicchioni was the only women on any of the eight teams that participated in the event. This is not the first time Capicchioni broke barriers in the world of men’s lacrosse. She was also the first woman to play in a men’s professional lacrosse team as a member of the New Jersey Storm and the first woman goalie to play in the Canadian championship.

Robert and Kathleen Trenske are passionate about photography, weddings, storytelling and seeing the world – and they try to combine them as often as possible. The husband-and-wife duo makes up Robert & Kathleen Photographers, a full-service destination wedding photography company. The couple, both graduates of Sacred Heart University, recently relocated their home and studio from Connecticut to Manhattan, a move they both said was risky but necessary. Shortly after they moved to New York City, the Trenskes learned that they are expecting their first child in October.

Armando Goncalves '75
Armando Goncalves ‘75 lists his education at SHU among the reasons for his successful 36-year at People’s United Bank and for his role as this year’s Barnum Festival Ringmaster. “I started working at the bank right out of college. In fact, I worked there part time as a teller while I was still in school,” said Goncalves, who earned a teaching degree with a minor in business at SHU. “I was looking for a teaching job, and the bank asked me to join their Retail Management Training Program. I became a branch manager after completing that program.” Goncalves is now president of the bank’s Southern Connecticut and Westchester County regions.

Dario Melendez '08
Dario Melendez ’08 credits his education at Sacred Heart University, and more specifically the professors, with his successes in his young sports journalism career. Melendez, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Media Studies, recently landed a plum job as the weekend sports anchor and reporter for WISN-TV, a top 40 station in Milwaukee, WI. In November, he left the warmth of Fort Myers, Fla., where he was weekend sports anchor and reporter for WINK TV, for the harsh winter of the Midwest. “I’m freezing my butt off,” he said, but it is well worth it.

Amy Davis '10
Amy Davis ’10 learned in her MBA classes at Sacred Heart University, as well as in the real world, that developing a product is a multi-faceted job. A resident of Weston, CT, Davis is the creator of Kiss-u Tissue Tube®, a cylindrical tissue container that fits in car cup holders. Davis reports that her product is catching on; evidenced by sales through the national chain, Walgreens. But the road to this early success was not an easy one, as Davis found out when she pursued the manufacturing and marketing of the Kiss-u Tissue Tube®.

Swetha Desai, ’07, received the Alumni Achievement Award for the significant, positive impact of herwork in developing countries. Desai, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Sacred Heart University and a Master of Public Health from George Washington University, said, “It was an honor and a surprise when I heard that I had been selected to receive the award; however, I do strongly feel that there is much more to be accomplished around the world regarding public health. I have only scratched the surface - if that. It is a thankless profession, but one I feel is truly worthwhile.”

A lot of attention has been paid lately to the dangers of professional and even college football. But that doesn’t mean that athletes in other sports don’t put themselves in harm’s way. Baseball – America’s pastime – comes with its own set of dangers. Antonio Reale comes face to face with those challenges every working day. Tony earned his bachelor’s in Exercise Science and his master’s in Physical Therapy, both from Sacred Heart University. His hard work paid off and, for the last four years, he’s been busy at his “dream job” as organizational physical therapist for the San Francisco Giants – yes, those Giants, the World Series-winning Major League Giants.

Father Michael Dunn '86
The Rev. Michael L. Dunn’s warm smile welcomes visitors to St. Francis of Assisi Church in Weston and lets them know he is available should they need his counsel. Father Dunn, a 1986 graduate of Sacred Heart University, is the new pastor at St. Francis, succeeding Monsignor Nicholas Grieco, who retired after nearly 20 years in the post. Father Dunn was appointed on July 1 by the Most Rev. William E. Lori, S.T.D., bishop of the Diocese of Bridgeport, who installed him on Sept. 5.

Actor and comedian Kevin Nealon summed up his appearance at the Edgerton Center for the Performing Arts on September 19th with a dry-witted explanation. He was the headliner for a fundraiser held at the college he "went to, but for a high school that's somewhere else": St. Joseph High School in Trumbull – also his alma mater. Before going on stage for "Sunday Night Live with Kevin Nealon," the former Saturday Night Live cast member reflected on his four years at Sacred Heart (he graduated in 1975) and how much his alma mater has changed since then. "I had a lot of great memories, but unfortunately, none of them were scholastic."

Mona Walsh '82
Shopping and traveling are two of Mona Walsh’s (’82) favorite things to do. That’s why, when the Long Island native and Connecticut resident was offered a job at Tanger Outlet Centers in Greensboro, North Carolina earlier this year, it was a no-brainer to accept. “Tanger Outlets is a great company where we have the opportunity to keep up with fashion trends a season or two ahead,” says Mona. “It’s one of the perks of working here!” Soon after moving and starting her job, she was promoted to Assistant Vice President, Corporate Communications, where she now oversees Tanger's investor relations, public relations, and corporate communications activities.

Sacred Heart University alumnus Michael Fazzino ’10 of Woodbury, CT, is confident that his successors in the campus’ ONE chapter will build upon the organization’s many achievements. Fazzino, who graduated with a dual major of Political Science and Business Administration, founded SHU’s ONE chapter in 2007, turning it into one of the most successful in the nation. The ONE Campus Challenge (OCC) is an offshoot of ONE, a grassroots campaign and advocacy organization backed by more than 2 million people who are committed to the fight against extreme poverty and preventable disease, particularly in Africa.
