SHU COMMUNITY SERVICE EFFORTS WIN CONNECTICUT HIGHER ED AWARD FOR 12TH CONSECUTIVE YEAR
For the 12th year in a row, Sacred Heart University's community service efforts have been recognized by the Connecticut Department of Higher Education.
On April 21, at the prestigious annual Connecticut Department of Higher Education Community Service Awards Ceremony, the Sacred Heart University Habitat for Humanity Campus Chapter received one of three awards in the state for exceptional community service in the "student group" category. Yale University and Quinnipiac University also won awards in this category.
The SHU Habitat Chapter received a plaque and a $500 donation for Habitat for Humanity.
Other SHU groups and individuals recognized for their outstanding contributions to the community were student groups UMOJA and Zeta Iota Lambda; individual students Mike Hougasian '05 MAT (Thompson, Conn.), Mike Mosher '06 (Broadbrook, Conn.), and Megan Wood '07 (Port Jefferson, NY); and SHU faculty member Professor Donna Bowers (Fairfield, Conn.).
Sacred Heart University's Habitat Chapter, the first in Fairfield County, was founded in 1995. Since its inception, the SHU Chapter has participated in hundreds of workdays in Bridgeport, and other communities, including abroad, in the Philippines.
