Rebecca Smart, MPH, MSN, APRN, NNP-BC, FNP-BC
Clinical Assistant Professor
Rebecca Smart received her BSN from the University of Virginia in 1982. She obtained her certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner through the Program at Georgetown University Hospital and School of Medicine, and received her MPH from New York Medical College with a focus on Health Services Management and Policy. In 2005 she expanded her scope of practice and obtained her MSN/FNP at Sacred Heart University awarded the Gold Medal of Excellence in Nursing. Holding two nationally recognized board certifications in both neonatal and family practice, she has been a nurse practitioner in clinical practice for over 23 years.
Areas of interest and expertise include neonatal and maternal child health, neurology and clinical research with personal research in the area of Group B Strep Sepsis as well as greater than 10 years of participation in neonatal outcomes research at Danbury Hospital. In the field of family practice she participated in the implementation of clinical trials in Alzheimer’s, epilepsy, MS and stroke.
Prior to joining Sacred Heart as faculty member, Professor Smart was an adjunct here for the last 2 years, working in NICU, urgent care and neurology. Additionally she has remained on staff at the Hospital of St. Raphael and Danbury Hospital. She is currently employed in the Outpatient Anticoagulation Clinic at Danbury Hospital completing further specialty certification in anticoagulation therapy management.
