WALL STREET LEADER GEOFFREY T. BOISI TO SPEAK AT SHU'S 2005 UNDERGRADUATE COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY
Baseball Commissioner Fay Vincent and Ethan Allen CEO Farooq Kathwari Among Honorary Degree Recipients; SHU President to Deliver Graduate Commencement Address Sacred Heart University is pleased to announce the speakers and honorary doctorate degree recipients for its 39th Commencement Exercises. The ceremonies will take place on Saturday, May 14th and Sunday, May 15th.

Dr. Anthony J. Cernera became the fifth president of Sacred Heart University in June of 1988. Under his leadership, the University now offers more than 60 undergraduate and graduate programs within four colleges and the full-time undergraduate enrollment has more than doubled. Dr. Cernera is also responsible for establishing the Institute for Religious Education and Pastoral Studies (REAPS), Sacred Heart University's MBA program in Luxembourg, and the Center for Christian-Jewish Understanding (CCJU). An internationally recognized leader in higher education, Dr. Cernera is the vice president of the International Federation of Catholic Universities and chaired the Connecticut Conference of Independent Colleges for three years. Among other leadership positions, he is an active member of the Advisory Council for the Connecticut State Department of Higher Education and serves on the board of Directors for the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities.

Geoffrey T. Boisi became one of Wall Street's most prominent leaders, organizing and negotiating many of the most significant sales, mergers or acquisitions worldwide. He was Vice Chairman of JPMorganChase and co-CEO of the firm's JPMorgan/Chase Manhattan merger. Mr. Boisi also has extensive involvement in philanthropic work. He is a co-founder of the National Leadership Roundtable on Church Management, chair of the National Mentoring Partnership and a director of Communities in Schools. A Knight of Malta, he is a trustee for the Papal Foundation and the Joseph P. Kennedy Enterprises. He serves on the Board of Trustees of the Carnegie Corporation. A graduate of Boston College, he received his MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, where he has a named professorship.
HONORARY DOCTORATE DEGREE RECIPIENTS The Board of Trustees of Sacred Heart University will grant honorary doctorate degrees at the Undergraduate Commencement to the following individuals:
- Mr. Geoffrey T. Boisi will receive the degree Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa.
- Sr. Marie Julianne Farrington, SSMN, Provincial Superior of the Sisters of St. Mary of Namur for 11 years and Superior General for 12 years, will receive the degree Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa.
- Mr. Farooq Kathwari, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Ethan Allen, will receive the degree Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa.
- Mr. Fay Vincent, the eighth Commissioner of Major League Baseball, will receive the degree Doctor of Law, honoris causa.
