Welcome to the Chemistry Department website at Sacred Heart University.
We are student-oriented faculty whose philosophy is to help each one of our students succeed. We do this by maximizing the attention that we give to each and every one of our students.
Our curriculum features small classes and access to a wide range of state-of-the-art instrumentation and computing and modern laboratories for teaching and research. Students are provided with a firm foundation in the fundamental principles of the discipline and an appreciation of the centrality of chemistry to science and society.
The other distinctive feature of our curriculum is an early introduction to research under supervision of a faculty in the fields of analytical, environmental, inorganic, organic, physical, and biochemistry. A list of Student Presentations & Publications at regional and national meetings shows why we are so proud of our students.
We offer BA, BS and MS degrees and an option of an accelerated five-year BS/MS track. We also provide advising modules to serve specific student interest and career goals.
The results of this education are well-documented. Many alumni continue in chemistry-related fields, often attending graduate school in chemistry, biochemistry, or medicine, or pursuing careers in industrial research or the biomedical sciences. Other career choices in recent years have included patent law and forensic science.
Most of our students participate in our nationally recognized Student Affiliate Chapter of the American Chemical Society (SAACS). One main focus of the chapter is to promote chemistry to the community through science outreach activities.
