The mission of the Sacred Heart English Language Institute is to provide excellent instruction in English as a Second Language (ESL) and orientation in US culture to all students who are non-native speakers of English, to help them achieve their personal, academic and professional goals, while recognizing the student’s individualized educational needs and cultural backgrounds.
Through this mission statement, Sacred Heart English Language Institute seeks to accomplish the following goals:
- To recruit local non-native English speaking students and international students to Sacred Heart University.
- To teach English as a Second Language to enrolled students
- To prepare students who are studying English as a Second Language for academic purposes and to provide them with strategies that will help them be successful in their academic futures.
- To advise students about the opportunities to study in other programs at Sacred Heart University and enable successful transition from the ESL program to other University programs.
- To serve as a resource to the staff, faculty and students of Sacred Heart University, with expertise in ESL education, adult education, international student affairs, immigration issues, and cultural diversity.
