During one of Jack Welch’s recent visits to campus, he looked out at our students and said, “The problem with college students is that you all think because you will have a degree, that makes you ready for a job. It doesn't!”
Jack is right.
Therefore, the Welch College of Business has redesigned undergraduate business education to provide an integrated, professional and academic development program to prepare today’s student for tomorrow’s global economy. This concept in undergraduate education will enhance the learning environment with a comprehensive approach to critical thinking, career knowledge and professional development.
The business world constantly evolves with structural changes in global economy, technological innovations, and adoption of best practices. Only those professionals who can keep pace with or stay ahead of the rapidly changing business environment and can recognize developing business trends are likely to emerge as influential and successful business leaders.
The Welch Experience is a comprehensive approach to business education that builds on an already existing curriculum of excellence. Starting in the student’s first year, Sacred Heart faculty, administration, and alumni will seek to educate the students inside and outside of the classroom and inside and outside of the country. WHAT EMPLOYERS LOOK FOR IN JOB CANDIDATES
In this fast-paced, complex, and competitive global market place future business professionals need every advantage to kick-start their careers, even before they leave the safe confines of academia. Given the state of today’s job market, it should come as no surprise that employers have raised the expectation levels for their workers. According to research conducted by the National Association of Colleges and Employers, or NACE, there are about a dozen key qualities that prospective job candidates are expected to possess. The top five are communication skills, strong work ethic, team work, analytical skills and technical skills.
Often, to differentiate between equally qualified candidates, employers will also consider a candidate’s GPA, student leadership, involvement in extra-curricular activities, volunteer experiences and internships. The Welch Experience aims to give WCOB students an edge over other candidates by arming them with a solid academic foundation and those extra skills and competencies that are so critical to employers.
One of the extraordinary benefits associated with your membership in the Welch College is your participation in the Welch Experience. All of the benefits associated with the Welch Experience are available to all students in the College through the single term fee structure.
