| | | | EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY CERTIFICATE PROGRAM (ETCP) Program Overview
The SHU Educational Technology Certificate Program (ETCP) is designed for individuals seeking to develop skills and strategies for integrating technology into a variety of PreK-12 curricular settings. The role of computer technology in the development of new teaching and learning environments is the primary focus of this program. Upon successful completion of the ETCP, participants will demonstrate proficiency in the use of computers to support problem solving, data collection, information management, communications, presentations, and decision-making. A knowledge of equity, ethics, legal, and human issues concerning the use of computers and technology in educational practice will also be acquired.
Participants who complete 12-15 credits of ETCP coursework are issued an Educational Technology Certificate through SHU. Course credits can be used for professional development purposes by those seeking employment as a school technology specialist, district technology coordinator, or instructional designer. ETCP courses can also be used as a concentration area that can be built into the SHU MAT or 6th year programs. Although the Ed Tech Certificate is not a degree or teaching endorsement, those who are already certified and teaching can use it to demonstrate to an employer that they are qualified to teach in a school computer lab. Individuals who have earned a Professional Teaching Certificate can also use the credits earned in any of our Ed Tech courses in meeting their State of CT CEU requirements in technology.
Courses are delivered through on-campus sessions and/or online instruction. A blended learning format is also available that enables participants to complete course requirements through bi-weekly online and on-campus sessions. | |
