The John F. Welch College of Business offers a BS/MBA program which allows a student to obtain a BS degree and an MBA in 5 years, rather than the six or more years normally required. In addition, the program encourages internship opportunities that will provide students with business experience in their field of interest. The compelling reason to consider this educational option is that the business world continues to be a dynamic but competitive place; more and more corporations are requiring an MBA for even entry level positions.
The Sacred Heart University program places a strong emphasis on the application of business theory to the realities of the business world. We are able to accomplish this with a faculty that combines substantial business experience with their academic training. Moreover, the faculty's dedication to teaching is second to none.
You may be accepted into the program as early as your senior year in high school, but more typically, your sophomore or junior year in college. Even second semester seniors are eligible to apply. As soon as you are accepted into the program, you are assigned an MBA faculty advisor in addition to your undergraduate faculty advisor.
The program's objectives are to develop:
- Broad Foundation in Accounting, Finance, and Management
- Management and Leadership Skills
- Ethical Standards of Business Behavior
- Specialization in 1 of 3 Academic Concentrations: Accounting, Finance, or General Management
- Analytical and Problem Solving Skills
- Global Awareness
The BS/MBA program is ideally suited for business undergraduates looking to complete their MBA early in their business career.
Degree Requirements
A minimum of 156 credits are required to receive both degrees. Of this total, 120 are at the undergraduate level. They include core courses and business-related courses. At the graduate level, the minimum credits are 36, 21 are program prerequisite or core courses, 18 are electives.
Internships and Career Counseling
- An undergraduate or graduate internship is mandatory.
