The process for admissions review and required elements vary somewhat between the two admission options. The prerequisite requirements are the same for any student preparing for matriculation into the Doctor of Physical Therapy program.
Option 1: Regular Decision
For Sacred Heart University students applying during their Junior (3+3) or Senior (4+3) year of undergraduate study; for adult students who have already completed a baccalaureate degree; or for students who are completing baccalaureate degrees at other institutions:
The completed application deadline is December 15 for the incoming Fall class. So please apply early as it does take some time for you to collect your supporting application materials. Academically qualified applicants will be invited to campus for an interview and supervised writing activity. Interviews are by appointment on specified dates in February for the incoming Fall class. Acceptance notification will be made by March 1. Each professional class will be comprised of approximately 45 students.
An applicant for admission to the graduate physical therapy program under the Regular Decision Option must submit:
- SHU Undergraduate Physical Therapy applicants please click here to apply.
- External Non-Sacred Heart University Physical Therapy applicants, please go to www.ptcas.org to apply.
- Essay (which can be completed online as part of the application)
- Prerequisite worksheet (which again can be completed online as part of the application)
- Two letters of recommendation (one from a past employer, one from a past teacher)
- Official transcripts of all previous college or university work
- A non-refundable application fee
Option 2: Early Decision for Entering Freshmen
For students applying to Sacred Heart University for freshman entry with a declared interest in the physical therapy graduate program.
Early Program Decision Option requirements for entering freshmen include:

- SAT scores of 1100 or better
- Rank in the top 30% of their high school class
- Successful completion of four years of Science including Physics
Entering freshmen that meet the Early Program Decision Option criteria and are accepted for this option will have a spot in the graduate physical therapy program reserved contingent upon:

- successful completion of all program prerequisites prior to beginning the graduate program with a GPA of 3.2 or higher
- completion of all undergraduate courses prior to beginning the graduate program.
Notification of conditional acceptance to the Early Decision Freshman option generally follows acceptance to Sacred Heart University, with the timing of notification dependent on the time of application and acceptance.
