6TH YEAR TEACHING CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS
About 6th Year Programs

6th Year Certificates of Advanced Study are available in three areas: Advanced Studies in Administration, Advanced Studies in Teaching, and the Connecticut Literacy Specialist Program.

The CAS Administration Degree Program  is designed for those interested in further study in Educational Administration and Leadership and for maintaining administrative certification. The Sixth Year Degree consists of an additional 15 credits beyond the Intermediate Administrator Certificate Program. Many students in this program continue on to doctoral studies.

The Advanced Teaching Certificate Program is a flexible curriculum allowing the experienced classroom teacher to customize a program to fit his/her professional goals and interests.

The CT Literacy Specialist Certification is also known as the CLSP Program.  The overall goal of this Program is to prepare candidates to lead educators and school districts into the best practices of school reform available in the 21st century. They will be knowledgeable proponents of action research and change agents assisting schools in promoting community literacy as well as student performance.  Through this program certified Connecticut teachers may obtain certification as a Remedial Reading Specialist (102).
