Initial Teacher Certification Admission RequirementsStudents applying to the Isabelle Farrington School of Education must hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
Other supplements needed:
- Graduate application form and a non-refundable application fee.
- Two letters of recommendation.
- Official transcript(s) from all colleges and universities previously attended.
- Current resume.
- Meet the required 2.75 undergraduate cumulative Grade Point Average (on a 4.0 scale). Applicants who do not meet this minimum requirement should contact Pam Pillo at pillop@sacredheart.edu.
- Meet the Praxis I Examination requirement for prospective teachers either through successful exam results or official waiver. Exam registration information is available upon request.
- Submit an essay stating the reasons the candidate wishes to pursue a career in teaching.
- Meet with a faculty advisor in the Education office to develop a preliminary plan of study for completion of the program. Please call (203) 371-7808 to make an appointment.
Sacred Heart University students and alumni may authorize the Office of Graduate Admissions to obtain their official SHU transcripts on their behalf. Contact the Office of Graduate Admissions for an authorization form.
Application Deadlines for Teacher Certification and the Internship program are as follows:
February 1 for courses beginning in the Late Spring and/or Summer terms, with Internships beginning in the Spring.
June 1 for courses beginning in the Fall term, with Internships beginning in the Spring.
October 1 for courses beginning in the Spring term, with Internship beginning in the Fall.
