The Center for Christian-Jewish Understanding (CCJU) of Sacred Heart University held its seventh annual Seminarians and Rabbinical Students Conference on May 29-31, 2007 at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT. The Conference is a program of the Center's Institute for religious leaders that seeks to foster deeper theological understanding, dialogue and collaboration among Jewish and Christian clergy.
The Institute for Seminarians and Rabbinical Students invites emerging rabbis, priests and ministers to better understand the history, problems and opportunities in Christian-Jewish relations. The program seeks to provide a foundation for dialogue with the religious other that will support young clergy as they begin their ministries. Graduates of the Seminarians’ Program are encouraged to continue their study as members of the Center’s Colleagues in Dialogue Program, which also convenes annually and seeks to solidify professional relationships and build on the theological understanding of others gained in the Seminarians' program.
The 2007 Seminarians and Rabbinical Students Conference welcomed 37 participants from across the country, representing all the movements of Judaism, as well as Protestant, Orthodox and Catholic seminarians. The three-day conference featured presentations and discussion with leading scholars in Christian-Jewish relations, including Rabbi Irving Greenberg, Jewish Life Network, New York; Dr. Eugene Fisher, U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, Washington, DC; Rabbi Eugene Korn, CCJU; and Dr. Mary C. Boys, the Skinner and McAlpin Professor of Practical Theology at Union Theological Seminary in New York.
