Mission Statement
The Study Abroad office assists Sacred Heart University undergraduate students in selecting and applying for credit-granting international educational programs that are either sponsored by or approved by the University.
Please note: Participation in study abroad programs through Sacred Heart University is limited to a maximum of two semesters. Transfer students may not participate in study abroad programs during their first semester at Sacred Heart University.

Academic Requirements
The GPA requirement for all SHU-sponsored programs is 3.0.
Acceptance
Admissions decisions for sponsored programs are made here on the University's campus. A Sacred Heart University faculty committee reviews all applications for sponsored programs, and notifies students of their acceptance in writing.
Tuition & Fees
Students who have been accepted and participate in sponsored programs during the academic year pay the regular Sacred Heart University tuition plus a $1,000 study abroad fee per semester. Students who have been accepted and participate in programs during the summer pay a $300 study abroad fee plus tuition per course set by the program. Students are responsible for funding travel to and from the study abroad program site. There is also a non-refundable $100 application deposit for SHU-sponsored programs which will be applied to the study abroad fee.
Financial Aid
Sacred Heart University financial aid is applicable to SHU-sponsored programs. Also, students who are eligible for federal or state aid may have such aid applied to the study abroad program. Financial aid will not apply to programs that run during the summer. Ms. Julie Savino, Dean of Financial Assistance, will be able to provide specific information about such awards.
Transfer of Credits
Grades earned are considered Sacred Heart University credit, and are calculated into the student's grade point average.
Withdrawal Policy
It is important to note that a student who withdraws from a sponsored program after having been accepted will still be responsible for one-half of the study abroad fee ($500 for programs that run during the academic year, and $150 for programs that run during the summer).
Deadlines
All study abroad forms for fall semester programs are due no later than the last day of classes of the spring semester. All study abroad forms for spring semester programs are due no later than the last day of classes of the fall semester.
