COLLEGE MAJOR
My major was Media Studies and I was not sure what exactly I wanted to do with it
JOB POSITIONS
My first position was a Sales Planning Assistant at CBS, I did that for a little over 1 1/2 years...I did not really enjoy that position, so it motivated to try and move into a different area of CBS, but unfortunately did not get the position. This allowed me to do some soul searching as to what would REALLY make me happy, turns out I did not want to be in the media field any more.
CURRENT POSITION
My current position is a high school guidance counselor
TYPICAL WORK DAY
There is no such thing as a "typical day" in high school, I have set appointment with/ students but sometimes they don’t show, and then I have other students stopping in, parents calling or stopping in, administration needing us to do things...I really never know what my day is going to be like.
POSITIVES
Knowing I have helped or reached a student.
NEGATIVES
Students not taking responsibility for their own actions, and parents who want us to parent their child instead of them.
LIFESTYLE
It only has affected my lifestyle two times; when I know a student’s situation at home, and know what they have to deal with...sometimes it is hard to let work stay at work.
COLLEGE PREPARATION
College prepared me to be responsible and organized, because nobody else was going to do it for me.
CAREER ADVICE
Get in the schools so you can get all different types of experiences.
SHU EXPERIENCE
It was great! Although I did not stick to the major I graduated with, I still have the best memories and life lessons learned from there.
