SHU JUNIOR ONE OF 12 NATIONAL HONOREES

Kelly Considine

Kelly Considine, a junior from Harwinton, Connecticut, is one of 12 students nationally to receive a scholarship from Delta Epsilon Sigma, the national honor society for Catholic colleges and universities. The recognition is based solely on academic accomplishments, leadership and service, in conjunction with faculty recommendations.

Considine is majoring in biology and chemistry, with minors in criminal justice and math. She is a member of the University’s Thomas More Honors Program who plans, after receiving her bachelor’s degree next year, to complete a master’s degree in chemistry at Sacred Heart before working on a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering.

She is active in a number of University extra-curriculars including the biology and chemistry clubs. Eleven SHU students recently participated in a national conference of the American Chemical Society in Salt Lake City, and she anticipates presenting at next year’s conference. The application process for the DES scholarship included an essay that outlined why she should be considered, as well as an examination of her college record and three recommendations from faculty members.
