CUSTOMS AND LITURGY OF THE JEWISH FESTIVAL OF PURIM

THE CENTER FOR CHRISTIAN-JEWISH UNDERSTANDING
OF SACRED HEART UNIVERSITY
Welcomes Guest Lecturer
Rabbi Yvonne Youngberg

Holy Havoc!

The Customs and Liturgy of the Jewish Festival of Purim:
Food, Fashion and Frivolity in a Serious Story of Redemption

Purim celebrates the Jewish victory over Persian oppression as recounted in the Book of Esther.  Rabbi Youngberg will explain how and why this serious story of survival is observed with such free-spirited revelry. Similar in character to the playful nature of the Christian practice of Shrove or Fat Tuesday, she will explore their common themes and spiritual purposes.

Tuesday, February 13, 2007
12:30 – 2:00 p.m.
University Commons

Lecture is free and open to the public. No reservations required.
