National columnist Melinda Henneberger will address “Race, Gender and Change in ‘08” at Sacred Heart University on Wednesday, October 15, in University Commons. The forum will take place at 7:30 P.M. and it is free and open to the public.

The speaker is a columnist for Commonweal, a contributing writer at the online magazine Slate, and author of If They Only Listened to Us: What Women Voters Want Politicians to Hear. Her book chronicles her 18-month trip through America, listening to women in 20 states talk about their often contradictory and still surprisingly private political lives.

Previously, she was a reporter for The New York Times, where she worked for 10 years in the paper’s Washington and Rome bureaus, and wrote regularly for The New York Times Magazine. Ms. Henneberger has also written for Newsweek, Reader’s Digest, GQ, and Washington Monthly, and has been a guest on NPR’s Fresh Air and Talk of the Nation, NBC’s Today Show, the CBS Evening News, MSNBC’s Hardball, NBC’s Chris Matthews Show and ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos.
