Dr. Joseph Utterback, an adjunct instructor of music at Sacred Heart University, has been recognized by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers with its ASCAPLUS Award, in the concert music division.

ASCAP presents the honors to assist and encourage member composers, and Dr. Utterback was cited by the distinguished panel of judges both for the unique prestige value of his compositions and recent performances of his work. The panel consisted of a symphony orchestra conductor, a professor emeritus at the University of Michigan, and a music editor and classical music critic for the New York Times.

The society’s president and chairman of the board, Marilyn Bergman, indicated that the grants are presented to support the growth and development of the nation’s music future. It was a goal, she said, that ASCAP shares with the University.
