SHU TO HOST ELECTION NIGHT PARTY
Sacred Heart University students and members of the faculty and staff will join together on Election Night – Tuesday, November 4th – to watch the election returns from across the nation. The celebration will take place in University Commons beginning at 7:30.

Matt Telvi, president of the SHU Student Government, said the party will last “until all the votes are counted or until it’s clear there is a national winner. Of course, the last election, between President Bush and Senator Kerry, went on for a long, long time, so who knows?”

The event is jointly sponsored by Student Government, the Student Events Team (SET), the Thomas More Honors Program, and the University’s Department of Government and Politics. It is a fitting conclusion to an election season that saw the Student Senate actively sponsoring voter registration among students and will include running shuttles to polling places in Fairfield and Bridgeport on Election Day.

Contributing to the evening’s festive atmosphere – no matter which side comes out victorious – will be plenty of free food, raffles and giveaways, and even a caricature artist.

Participants will watch the results, live, on three large-screen televisions, and members of the Department of Government and Politics will be on hand to explain and explore the significance of  the results as they come in.

As Matt Telvi points out, this is thought to be the most significant election in at least a generation, and students will enjoy celebrating the process and learning the results together.
