LEARNING OUTCOMES FOR THE PSYCHOLOGY MAJOR
Following are ten learning outcomes that we want every Sacred Heart University psychology graduate to achieve.

  1. The student will be able to  articulate the most important contributions of each of the major schools of thought in Psychology.
  2. The student will display the ability to think critically in assessing various psychological theories and empirical findings.
  3. The student will communicate effectively both orally and in writing about their own and others’ research findings.
  4. The student will be able to identify, gather, and synthesize appropriate background information for empirical research projects.
  5. The student will demonstrate comprehension and facility regarding research methods and statistical analysis skills.
  6. The student will participate effectively in working relationships with other students and with instructors.
  7. The student will understand the major ethical issues in psychological research with humans and animals.
  8. The student will demonstrate an understanding of different cultural perspectives.
  9. The student will participate in service learning projects with appropriate reflection on the experience.
  10. The student will identify how the Psychology major has influenced his or her personal growth, life choices, and career development.
