Isaiah 58:19a, Matthew 9:14-15
Help me, O Lord, to fast from all that keeps me from you:
From the petty jealousies that distract me from recognizing the blessings in my own life;
From anger towards those who challenge my view of the world;
From the frustration that so often comes when having to interact with someone whose beliefs are so different than my own.
Help me to see your face in all I meet:
To find you in the person who always pushes my buttons;
To find you in the person who never sees my pain;
To find you in the person that has hurt me.
Help me to be your hands and feet in the world:
To break through the bars of oppression,
To break bread with the hungry,
To break the chains of addiction.
Help me to be your light in the world today.
