GRE
Length of time: Test day can last up to 4 hours, with 2.5 hours on the test itself.  Subject Tests can last up to 3.5 hours, with 2 hours and 50 minutes for the test itself.

Registration fee

When to take the test: The general test can be taken only once a month and no more than five times per year. Scores will be sent to you and the institutions of your choice 10-15 days after the test date. The subject tests are offered only in Fall or Spring, and scores are reported 5-6 weeks later.  If you are going to graduate school right after college, it is recommended that the test be taken as earliest as possible during the junior or senior year of college. 

Test Components:

  • General Test
    1. Analytical Writing
    2. Verbal
    3. Quantitative
  • Subject Test
    1. Different number of multiple choice questions depending on the subject
    2. Subjects include: Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology; and Biology

Scores:

  • General Test
    1. Verbal: 200 - 800 score scale, in 10-point increments
    2. Quantitative: 200 - 800 score scale, in 10-point increments
    3. Analytical Writing: 0 - 6 score scale, in half-point increments
  • Subject Test
    1. Total score on a 200 - 990 score scale, in 10-point increments
    2. Subscores for Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology; and Biology tests are on a 20-99 score scale in 1-point increments
